In China, the CoronaVac,  Butantan and Sinovac´s inactivated virus vaccine, have been applied on children since October without demonstrating any risks, explained the researcher Zhijie An, from Center of Diseases Control and Prevention of China, during the second day of the CoronaVac Symposium, which happened this Wednesday (8).

The most known and used vaccinal platform is the vaccine made with inactivated virus, the technology used in CoronaVac, which has already shown itself effective and safe for all the group ages, including children, and it is present on the composition of immunizings against influenza, poliomyelitis  and hepatitis A.

Besides China, other countries like Chile, Ecuador, Indonesia, Camboja and Colombia have already used the immunizing on children as well. “We have strong evidence from clinical studies that CoronaVac is safe for children. With that, in China we slowly began vaccinating children: from 12 to 17 years of age using vaccines with inactivated virus; then from 6 to 12 years old, and from 3 to 6 years old. And with that we have evidence from the real world that the vaccine is safe”, reinforced the scientist.

Regarding the new technologies of vaccines, like RNA messenger and viral vector with adenovirus, the researcher believes that the application of the immunizing on children must wait for clinical studies that testify its effectiveness and safeness. “It is a very recent technology from the technical point of view. We need to use the politics based on evidence; for that reason, I believe that the inactivated virus vaccines are the ones that can already be applied on children”.
