CoronaVac simulates the real infection and is more efficient against reinfection, points out the virologist

For the virologist Edison Durigon, from the Institute of Biomedical Science of the University of São Paulo (ICB-USP), the fact of CoronaVac being a vaccine of inactive virus, which means, it presents the complete virus and all its proteins at the composition and not just fragmented parts, and it makes CoronaVac more efficient against the reinfections with SARS-CoV-2.

“It needs to be emphasized that all the vaccines work, but I believe that the vaccine with complete inactive virus is way better considering the reinfection”, pointed out the scientist this Wednesday (8), during his participation on the second day of the CoronaVac Symposium.

According to Durigon, by presenting the complete virus, the vaccines of inactivated viruses are capable of simulating the real infection in a more effective way than the vaccines with just fragments of a single protein.

“During the pandemics, we could observe just a few reinfections. The most common was the infection of non vaccinated people or of vaccinated people that had a contact with the virus before. This happens, because, when you have the sickness, you produce more antibodies. The CoronaVac must present the same behavior”, explains.

The researcher emphasizes  that all the vaccines available at present are efficient to fight against the Covid-19, especially serious cases and hospitalizations.

The technology of inactivated viruses is the most consolidated vaccine technique in the world, used in immunizings against different amounts of other diseases, such as influenza and poliomyelitis.
